Overview:
Our Electrical Engineers at Auspower Connect recently completed a successful street lighting design at the roundabout junction of Edmund and William Street in Shelly Beach. By adhering to the latest Australian and New Zealand standards for road lighting, we have significantly enhanced safety and visibility for motorists and pedestrians in the area.
As part of the Sunshine Council’s Black Spot program, we undertook crucial upgrades to the lighting in the vicinity of the roundabout due to its status as a high-traffic zone. This initiative follows a concerning history of accidents at the intersection, with five recorded collisions since 2016. With William Street serving as a vital link between Moffat Beach and Shelly Beach, and Edmund Street connecting Shelly Beach and Kings Beach, these improvements are essential for community safety and connectivity.
Our Electrical Engineers classified the junction of Edmund and William Street as Category V5 of AS/NZS 1158.1.1. Using Perfect Lite software, our team produced a lighting design, carefully considering illuminance requirements and ensuring a minimum horizontal illuminance of 3.5 lux on the road surface at the roundabout and raised traffic management devices, and 1.75 lux on the 3m surrounds to maintain optimal safety standards across the design area and its surroundings.
Key Constraints:
Our Electrical Engineers produced a compliant design that was limited to existing Energex pole locations, static clearances to overhead mains and obtrusive lighting to existing residents.
