RATE 3 STREETLIGHTING – ROAD WORKS & CYCLE LANES

We were engaged to design street lighting to Category V3 of AS/NZS 1158.1.1 2005, for the road widening and bicycle lane associated with dual lane roadway and roundabout reconfiguration.

Kawana Way / Premier Circuit roundabout was upgraded from one to two lanes for both Northbound and Southbound traffic on Kawana Way. North of the roundabout the two lanes merged into one lane before the bridge. South of the roundabout, the two lanes continue into the Kawana Way / Metier Linkway roundabout which was also upgraded to accommodate two lanes of traffic. The median strip dividing the carriageway was extended in both directions.

Australian Standard 1158.1.1 specifies an illuminance design is required for the roundabout, changes in the carriageway width, diverging and converging areas, and noses of the median strips. Luminance design is required for the straight sections of roadway. Perfect Lite software was utilised for illuminance simulations and luminance spacing tables.

The design utilised the existing Rate 3 streetlight supply point at Energex pillar U1440295.

KEY CONSTRAINTS

Utilise existing lighting during construction and Incorporate existing street lights into the proposed lighting arrangement to minimise unnecessary expenditure.
