• PUBLIC LIGHTING FOR ROAD WIDENING AND EXTENDED TURN LANE

Our Electrical Engineers were engaged by RoadPro Consulting to design street lighting to accommodate the proposed road widening and extended turning lane.  The lighting category was assessed as category V3 as per AS/NZS 1158.1.1:2005. Due to the irregular nature of the lighting geometry and channelization, an illuminance-based design was appropriate as per AS/NZS 1158.1.1:2005 clause 3.4.2. For category V3 design a minimum horizontal illuminance of 7.5 lux on the road surface at intersections and raised traffic management devices as well as 3.75 lux extending 3m from the edge of the defined intersection carriageway.  Lighting simulations were conducted using Perfect Lite software to model the illuminance on the roadway surface.

Energex approved the proposed scheme as a Rate 2 connection including new columns in the median on the condition that the median is a minimum of 2m wide at the location of the proposed columns. The design allowed for fourteen (14) Phillips Roadflair LED 170W BRP393 and recovery of eleven (11) superseded luminaires.

Constraints:

Identifying that the street light circuit, east of the intersection, was supplied via an unfused joint to a 185mm service cable in pit U4201110.  Liaison with Energex to develop a suitable supply arrangement that complies with present standards.
